1. Brixham Harbour to Berry Head

Distance: Approx. 3 miles round trip
Terrain: Easy to moderate
Highlights: Panoramic sea views, wildlife spotting, Napoleonic fort
This is one of the most-loved Brixham coastal walks. Start at the harbour and stroll past the colourful fishing boats and the Golden Hind replica ship. From here, follow the signs along Southwest Coast Path as it climbs gently past the Breakwater, with views stretching across Torbay. As you make your way up, you’ll pass through Shoalstone – home to the popular outdoor seawater pool – before continuing along the clifftop path. Keep an eye out for wildflowers, seabirds and even dolphins if you’re lucky! The route leads you straight into Berry Head National Nature Reserve, where you’ll find open space, dramatic cliffs and the historic Napoleonic fort.
Once you’ve taken in the views, pop into The Guardhouse Café – a cosy spot known for hearty breakfasts, homemade cakes, and local produce. It’s the perfect place to pause and recharge before heading back the way you came.
2. Fishcombe Cove and Churston Cove

Distance: Approx. 0.5 miles
Terrain: Moderate with woodland paths and steps
Highlights: Secluded beaches, shady woodlands, family-friendly route
You can begin your walk to Fishcombe Cove from various points in the area, but we’d recommend parking at Freshwater Quarry Car Park, as there’s no direct parking at the cove itself. From there, it’s a straightforward walk that leads you onto the coastal path and through Battery Gardens, which has one of the most panoramic views in the Bay and is a significant historical value. As you stroll through the gardens, you’ll soon arrive at Fishcombe Cove a stunning small shingle cove protected on all sides by tall red cliffs making it the perfect place for swimming. If you fancy going further along the coast path, you can visit the next beach called Churston cove.
3. The South West Coast Path: Brixham to Kingswear

Distance: Around 10 miles (one way)
Terrain: Challenging
Highlights: Dramatic coastline, hidden coves, breath-taking views
This section of the South West Coast Path offers one of the most scenic – and rewarding – walks around Brixham Devon. Starting from Brixham Harbour, head along the coast past Berry Head Nature Reserve, where you can enjoy sweeping sea views and spot local wildlife. From there, the path follows the rugged cliffs, winding through peaceful woodland and open fields, with views across the English Channel.
You’ll pass Man Sands, a remote shingle beach reached by a fairly steep descent – a great spot to pause and take in the wild surroundings. Continuing along the route, you’ll come across Warren Woods, then onto Scabbacombe Head, where the views are particularly striking. The path eventually brings you into Kingswear, where you can enjoy views over the River Dart and Dartmouth on the opposite bank.
It’s a challenging walk with varied terrain, so good walking shoes are essential – but the scenery makes it well worth the effort. Once you reach Kingswear, you can catch the number 18 bus back to Brixham, making it a manageable day out without having to retrace your steps.
4. Brixham Town Trail

Distance: Approx. 1 mile
Terrain: Easy
Highlights: Historical sites, colourful houses, harbour views
This relaxed walk is a great way to take in the sights of Brixham at your own pace. Start by exploring the high street, where you’ll find a mix of independent shops, local bakeries and gift spots – perfect for a gentle browse.
From there, make your way down to the harbour, where colourful fishing boats bob on the water and the replica Golden Hind sits proudly on the quayside. Follow the path along the waterfront and continue around the coast past Breakwater Beach, eventually reaching Shoalstone Pool – a lovely open-air seawater swimming pool with beautiful sea views.
If you fancy a break, pop into The Prince William nearby – a friendly spot right on the waterfront where you can enjoy a drink or some food while watching the boats go by. It’s an easy-going walk with plenty of scenic stops along the way.
