The mini heatwave has well and truly arrived here in sunny South Devon, making it the perfect time to dip your toe into one of our many award-winning Blue Flag beaches.

We are fortunate enough in the English Riviera to have some of the best beaches in Devon on our doorstep – ideal for perfecting your sandcastle-building skills and topping up the tan.

With so many beautiful beaches to choose from, here’s our recommendations on the top 5 award-winning nearby beaches that should not be missed this summer, all of which are just a hot, skip and jump from Beverley Holidays:


Broadsands Beach

1. Broadsands Beach

Broadsands Beach has not only won the coveted Blue Flag beach award but it also boasts a Keep Britain Tidy Seaside award. Peppered with brilliantly coloured beach huts along its shores, and home to a water sport hire outlet, its great for families and a firm favourite among locals.

2. Goodrington Sands

Golden Goodrington Sands is another of the Bay’s popular Blue Flag beaches and is the nearest beach to yours truly – Beverley Holidays. It has all the ingredients for a great family day at the beach, including cafes, watersport equipment hire and a large park for the little ones. For thrill-seekers,  Splashdown water park is a wonderous waterworld of flumes including the jaw-dropping Devil’s Drop.

3. Meadfoot Beach

If you’re seeking something a little more tucked away, Torquay’s Meadfoot Beach is a small beach with a mixture of rocks, shingle and sand set below towering cliffs. Along with its Blue flag status, the beach is accompanied with a cafe, toilets and shower and provides fabulous views of the Bay. Many people looking for a Tourquay camping spot head to us.

4. Dawlish Warren Beach

Dawlish Warren Beach is a beautiful sandy beach backed by sand dunes and small lakes. It’s very popular for watersports enthusiasts, and along with the beach’s blue flag status, its nature reserve is a protected spot for wildlife and flowers.

5. Blackpool Sands

You could easily make the mistake of thinking that you’re in Hawaii when you rock up at the picture-postcard Blackpool Sands. This privately managed beach is in a sheltered bay in the South Hams and is surrounded by pines and just a short drive from our family of parks via Dartmouth ferry. It’s a popular choice for watersport activities where you can hire kayaks, snorkels and boogie boards and makes regular appearances on BBC One’s drama series The Coroner.
