Step into a vibrant world of purple blooms at the Purple Pollinator Patch. This specially designed garden is a feast for the eyes and a vital haven for bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects. Whilst pollinators are attracted to numerous colours of flowers, the colours purple, violet and blue have been scientifically proven to attract bees and butterflies.

Our wildlife pond, outside reception, is a tranquil spot perfect for observing nature in action. It’s a great place to spot frogs, dragonflies, fish and an array of other insects. Take a moment to soak in the peaceful atmosphere while watching nature in action.

Bugingham Palace

A favourite among families, Bugingham Palace, is our creatively designed insect hotel. This fascinating structure provides a safe habitat for various insects, offering a unique opportunity to learn about these small yet crucial members of our environment. Kids and adults alike will enjoy discovering the different “rooms” and the insect guests that reside there.

Berry Head Nature Reserve

Just a short trip from Beverley Holidays, Berry Head Nature Reserve is part of the South Devon National Landscape and offers breathtaking coastal views and rich historical significance. The stunning headland features various walking trails, suitable for all levels, and is home to Napoleonic forts, the award-winning Guard House café and an iconic lighthouse.  Surrounded by water on three sides, there are stunning views across Torbay and beyond. A helpful compass set in stone points out nearby landmarks.

The working lighthouse is not only the shortest but also the highest in the country.  Two Napoleonic Forts, dating from 1795, are great for kids to scramble over whilst soaking up the history of the site.

Covering 170 acres, Berry Head is Torbay’s most designated heritage site, being a Special Area of Conservation, National Nature Reserve, Site of Special Scientific Interest and Scheduled Ancient Monument to name only four! Nature lovers will appreciate the diverse wildlife and plant species that thrive in this protected area. With over 200 species of bird, including a Guillemot colony and threatened Cirl Bunting and 7 species of bat, including the endangered Greater Horseshoe bat, there is so much to see.  Don’t forget to scan the waters below for harbour porpoise!

Saltern Cove is a hidden gem for beach enthusiasts and nature explorers. As Britain’s only designated underwater Local Nature Reserve, this important Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), it boasts unique geological formations and abundant marine life. It’s an ideal spot for rock pooling, snorkelling, or simply enjoying a quiet day by the sea. The cove’s crystal-clear waters and natural beauty make it a perfect destination for a family day out.

Overlooking Saltern Cove, Sugarloaf Hill offers stunning coastal views, whilst The South West Coast Path also runs through this site.

Clennon Lakes

For a peaceful retreat, visit nearby Clennon Lakes, a series of serene freshwater lakes surrounded by lush greenery. Created in the early 1980’s, this area is a bird watcher’s paradise, with numerous species to spot. A designated County Wildlife Site, Clennon Lakes are Torbay’s most important wetland site.

The well-maintained paths around the lakes make it accessible for everyone, including families with young children and those with mobility needs. Pack a picnic and spend a leisurely afternoon enjoying the tranquillity and natural beauty.

Slapton Ley

A little further afield, Slapton Ley is the largest natural freshwater lake in southwest England. Separated from the seas by a narrow shingle bar, the lake is surrounded by reedbeds, marshes and woodland habitats.
