Winter Wonders On The English Riviera

With the first flurry of snow reported to have fallen on Dartmoor, we thought it would be the perfect time to tell you all about the winter wonders found right here on the English Riviera.

While most people think of palm trees and ice pops when they hear the word ‘Torbay’, there’s plenty to see outside of the summer months. Winter, for example, is a wonderful time of year. What better place to escape the cold than in a cosy Cockington pub, or with a brisk walk to blow away the cobwebs along Torquay harbour.

Far from turning into a ghost town that sees tumble weeds blowing along its deserted streets once the last tourist has left, Torbay comes alive with quaint Christmas markets and twinkling lights that illuminate its frosty seafronts. Here’s just a few of our favourite winter wonders to look for if you’re staying with Beverley Holidays during this snow-capped season….

Winter Wonderland Snow Spectacular

If the light dusting of snow on Dartmoor has melted away before you arrive, there’s plenty of white stuff forecast at Babbacombe Model Village. Its annual Winter Wonderland Snow Spectacular turns the miniature masterpiece into a snow-capped scene, complete with Christmas lights and even a chance to try skiing on its ‘Alpine’ Terrace.

Cockington Ice Skating Rink

What better way to embrace the cold than by taking part in the great winter pastime of ice skating? Strap on your skates and head to the stunning surrounds of Cockington Court, where a festive outdoor synthetic ice rink awaits. We can’t think of a more glorious thing to do this winter than gliding in the shadow of the majestic Manor House (from 7 Dec).

Christmas Markets Galore

You know the countdown to the festive season is well and truly under way when Christmas markets spring up on every corner of the bay. First up is Brixham Christmas Market at Scala Hall, which sees some 40 stalls selling local gifts – perfect for picking up stocking fillers for the whole family (23-24 Nov).  Not long after, the popular Totnes Night Market returns, bringing with it an eclectic mix of festive finds along the town’s cobbled streets (3, 10, 17 Dec).
