Salcombe
The picturesque coastal town of Salcombe has a superb array of local food and drink to sample.
As soon as you arrive in Salcombe, it’s easy to see why this has been a popular resort town for many years. The numerous boutique shops and restaurants which are dotted along the high street and waterside are a pleasure to visit. You can while away many hours just watching boats and other sea craft meandering up and down the estuary. The Ferry Inn is one of the best pubs in Salcombe, it’s a great spot to enjoy this low energy activity. On a warm day pick a bench on their terrace and relax with a drink or two and maybe some tasty fish and chips.
Seafood heaven
If you’re a fan of seafood we recommend paying a visit to the Winking Prawn restaurant. The shabby-chic beach cafe here sits just over the road from North Sands in Salcombe. It serves favourites such as buckets of prawns and platters of shellfish. However you can just enjoy a classic Devon cream tea or an ice cream here.
Just up the road is Overbecks. This National Trust property is fascinating and well worth a visit. It was the seaside home of inventor Otto Overbeck. The gardens and house are perched high on the cliffs above the town. The gardens are a pleasure to wander around with exceptional coastal views. Inside the house there is an array of antiquities to discover.
