Teignmouth
Discover the delights of this traditional seaside town just half an hour from Paignton.
Take a day trip to Teignmouth and enjoy this pretty coastal town. With historic Georgian buildings, long sandy beaches, and fresh local food, there’s plenty to entertain you during your visit.
The town is just south of Exeter and is located on the edge of the mouth of River Teign. It also has a section of south Devon coast to the east of the town. In the other directions it is surrounded by unspoilt countryside. You’ll be hard pressed to find a more beautiful setting.
Teignmouth Beach
If you’re after a traditional day out at the seaside, Teignmouth beach is ideal. It’s one of those beaches that will bring back those childhood memories. The long stretch of sand is great for distancing yourself from others. Even during the summer you won’t feel crowded.
The beach itself stretches down from the mouth of the River Teign along the red cliffs which head toward Dawlish. At one end you won’t fail to spot the impressive Victorian Pier. Nearby you’ll find a play park, crazy golf, skate park, green, ice cream huts and parade. The beach is dog-friendly during the winter months, so you can even bring your furry family members along for a run on the sand.
Things to Do
If you get bored of relaxing on the beach, the town has a wide range of shops. From takeaway restaurants to souvenirs there is plenty to keep you occupied. If you’re feeling thirsty or the kids need re-fuelling, there’s plenty of local cafés serving drinks and light bites. Alternatively, if you want to explore further, catch the passenger ferry across the water to the village of Shaldon.
