1. Greenway House

Situated on the banks of the River Dart, Greenway House was the beloved holiday home of the famous and much-loved author Agatha Christie and her family.

The house is presented in the style of the 1950’s, during this period. Agatha and her family would spend summer’s here with friends. You can also explore the large woodland gardens that slowly drift down towards to Dart estuary.

Top Tip: If you plan to travel by car you MUST pre-book your car parking space. Visit the Greenway website for full details.

2. Overbecks

Possibly one of the most beautiful gardens, this hidden paradise must be on any ‘garden lovers’ bucket list. We love their subtropical gardens. They are full of colour and filled with exotic and rare plants. Step through the garden gates and explore the many wandering paths.

The views from the gardens over the estuary are superb. Inside the house at Overbeck’s you’ll find Otto’s ‘Rejuvenator’, once believed to cure all ills. Don’t miss the melodious giant music box called a polyphon, you can even choose a disc to play.

3. Coleton Fishacre

Travel back in time to the jazz age in the country home of the D’Oyly Carte family. Full of Art Deco elegance, you can get a real insight into 1920s life by visiting each room. You can even enjoy a live piano playing in the living room. This really makes you feel like you have been transported back to this wonderful era.

One of the reason’s why we love Coleton Fishacre is because it is surrounded by a beautiful garden by the sea. It has plants from the Mediterranean, South Africa and New Zealand and it’s Art-deco feel.

4. Parke

Enjoy the fresh air and surroundings while you’re at Parke. You could go for a gentle stroll by the river, have a go at orienteering, go bird spotting, bug hunting and much more. The River Bovey runs through Parke and was an important source of water to power Bovey Tracey’s historic mills sited downstream.

More than ever, nature has been a source of comfort here. Trees tower above, there are serene coastal paths, the simplicity of a rushing stream and panoramic drama in the skies – these can answer our need for quiet and inspiration. We think this is the perfect place to enjoy a lovely sunny dog walk.

5. Compton Castle

A rare survivor, this medieval fortress with high curtain walls, towers and a portcullis, is set in a landscape of rolling hills and orchards. Compton Castle is a bewitching mixture of romance and history.

Here at Beverley Holidays we love a regular visit to Compton and Powderham Castle because of the medieval ambiance and special events they hold that are great for all the family.
