No trip to the English Riviera would be complete without dipping your toe into one of the beautiful family friendly beaches that line its sunny shores. A perfect day out for all the family, here’s our recommendation of the best beaches in Torbay to explore during your stay at Beverley Holidays – so grab your sunscreen, pull up a deckchair and discover why we do like to be beside the seaside…

Goodrington Sands

With its gorgeous golden sand, safe-swimming conditions and picture postcard beach huts that line the pretty promenade, Goodrington Sands is a firm favourite among families looking to top up their Torbay tan. There truly is something to suit all ages, with Reach Outdoors providing plenty for the watersport enthusiasts in your family, from paddleboard and kayak hire, to caving and coasteering sessions. Keen to stay on dry land? Head to the nearby play park or discover games galore in the arcade, plus the pretty lakes are home to an abundance of birdlife including giant swan boats.

The closest beach to yours truly Beverley Holidays, Goodrington Sands is also the setting for Splashdown Waterpark, a summer staycation essential with its slippery waterslides and twisting tyre rides. Better still, watch this space as there are exciting plans in the pipeline to extend the waterpark and add a new beach front café in the next few years.

Family running on beach. Family friendly beaches in Devon

Paignton Sands

Just a short bus ride from Beverley Holidays, Paignton Sands is a magnet for families in the Summer months with its pleasure pier adorning countless postcards of Torbay. Built in 1879, it’s a great place to stretch your legs and soak up the South Devon sunshine, while the kids run riot on the bumper cars and traditional coin pushers.

Cool down with a Mr Whippy from one of the beachside stalls, or be the envy of our local seagulls by tucking into the firm seaside favourite of fish and chips, and then feel the sand between your toes with a spot of sandcastle building. If the kids still have some energy to spare, be sure to head to the Geoplay Park, designed around the English Riviera’s geological history complete with sand pit and water play area.

Torre Abbey Sands

Awarded the prestigious Blue Flag and Seaside Awards for Summer 2022, Torre Abbey Sands in Torquay is another must for families looking to get their seaside fix.  The main beach for Torquay, it’s a perfect place to perch yourself on a deckchair while taking in views of the English Riviera including its famous promenade and the English Riviera Wheel which towers over Torbay in the Summer months.

Hire a paddleboard from the beachside WeSup kiosk and cruise along its sunny shores alongside jet skis and speedboats that bob around the Bay basking in the famous Riviera sunshine. Plus, look out for the legendary Torquay Sandman who’s stunning creations are a sight to behold and the perfect backdrop to your holiday selfie.
