Entertainment is an absolute must when you’re on a family holiday in our part of the world – whether you’re having a caravan break or camping in Devon.

To help you plan ahead for your next trip, our guest blogger Will Tottle from Wonderful Wellies provides some top tips on the best camping games around…

1. Board Games

These are a staple activity when it comes to camping trips and holidays. You can’t go wrong with a few classic board games like Monopoly and Scrabble. Packing a few of these will keep the kids entertained if you have decided to take a family trip, and you won’t have to suffer through bored tantrums.

If you are an adult group, however, there are a few mature games that you can bring with you if you don’t fancy any of the classics. Balderdash, Pictionary & Cranium are some of the most popular choices, as they present a fun game with an adult twist that every member of your group is sure to enjoy.

2. Camping Olympics

This is a fun series of activities that are put together. The group is split into teams, and each one must compete to see who can finish first. Usually, the games involve things like obstacle courses, ring toss, and hula-hooping, but you can add anything you want so that it works for you and your group.

3. Scavenger Hunt

The great thing about these is that they can be altered to fit any age group and the difficulty can be changed. The concept of a scavenger hunt works where you are given a list of items to find, and you must collect them and/or tick them off as you discover them. The first to do so wins.

For younger children, you can get them to find things like leaves and twigs, whereas older children and adults could be sent to search for specific plants and insects, as well as birds. It can be made more difficult and detailed. For the trickier items (like bugs and animals), you can get participants to take pictures on their phones instead of physically collecting them.

Whenever you choose to take your camping trip, having a few games to play is an absolute must. Whether you are stuck inside on a rainy day, or you just need something to do while you chill out on the site, there is a game that will work perfectly for you and your group. Plus, it makes for a really great bonding experience.
