It was difficult to narrow down our 5 Best Dog-friendly Beaches but here are the top spots near Beverley Holidays.
1. Elberry Cove
Elberry Cove is a hidden gem nestled between Brixham and Paignton. This pebbly beach is surrounded by lush greenery, making it a picturesque spot for a leisurely walk with your dog.
The clear waters are perfect for a refreshing dip, and the romantic ruins of Lord Churston’s bathhouse add a touch of history to your visit. Elberry Cove was one of Agatha Christie’s favourite bathing spots and the cove features in one of her novels, The ABC Murders!
Make sure you keep an eye out for a variety of seabirds and, if you’re lucky, you might spot some seals in the water.
Elberry Cove is a more secluded spot, so there aren’t any facilities directly on the beach. However, nearby Broadsands Beach has toilets and cafes.
Elberry can only be reached by foot and the closest parking is at Churston Ferrers village, where a short, scenic walk through woodlands leads you to the cove. Alternatively, there is a pay and display car park at nearby Broadsands.
2. Goodrington North Sands
Goodrington North Sands is a favourite among dog owners for its wide, sandy stretch and welcoming atmosphere. It’s a great place for dogs to run freely and play fetch and within walking distance of Beverley Holidays. However, ample parking is available at the Goodrington Beach Car Park, just a short walk from the sands.
This beach has plenty to offer with nearby cafes, public toilets, and the Splash Quaywest Waterpark for some family fun (although dogs aren’t allowed in the waterpark itself).
The beach is teeming with marine life. At low tide, you can explore rock pools filled with crabs, starfish, and other fascinating creatures.
3. Fairy Cove
Tucked away next to Paignton Harbour, Fairy Cove is a charming little beach that’s often quieter than the more popular spots. The beach is a mix of sand and shingle, perfect for a peaceful outing with your dog. At low tide the beach is separated from the sea by flat rocks with interesting rock pools to explore.
Fairy Cove is close to Paignton Harbour, where you’ll find a variety of shops, cafes, and public toilets. Plus, there is parking available at Paignton Harbour or the nearby Roundham Car Park.
4. Fishcombe Cove
For a tranquil escape, head to Fishcombe Cove. This small, pebbly beach is located in Brixham and is surrounded by woodland, providing a lovely backdrop for a quiet dog walk.
Fishcombe Cove has a seasonal Cafe and toilets on-site, but Brixham town centre is just a short walk away, offering shops, cafes, and public toilets. The nearest parking can be found at the Oxen Cove Car Park. From there, it’s a pleasant walk to the beach through Battery Gardens.
This cove is a fantastic spot for wildlife enthusiasts. Look out for seals and a variety of bird species, including cormorants and gulls.
5. St Mary’s Bay
St Mary’s Bay is a beautiful, secluded beach located on the outskirts of Brixham. With its stunning views and peaceful atmosphere, it’s an ideal spot for a relaxing day with your dog.
This beach is more remote, so there are no facilities directly on the beach. However, Brixham town centre, with its amenities, is a short drive.
The best place to park is at Sharkham Point Nature Reserve, which is a short walk from St Mary’s Bay. Be aware the beach is only accessible via steep steps.
The area around St Mary’s Bay is rich in wildlife. You might spot seals, dolphins, and a variety of seabirds. The nature reserve nearby is also home to many interesting species of plants and insects.
